Fourteen days. One unrushed Highland arc.
The route reaches Skye by ferry, crosses the north-west Highlands without attempting the full NC500, then returns by Inverness, the A9 and Moffat.

Worcestershire → Haltwhistle
A deliberate first hop that puts Hadrian’s Wall on the doorstep without turning day one into an endurance test.

Chesters → Loch Lomond
Explore the Roman cavalry fort early, then cross the border and make camp beside Loch Lomond.

WEST HIGHLANDS/About 3 hr
Loch Lomond → Glencoe → Bunree
Begin among woodland and wetland wildlife, then let the road through Glencoe deliver the first great Highland reveal.
DAY04
WEST HIGHLANDS/Local touring
Glenfinnan + Glen Nevis
Keep the pitch and travel light: Glenfinnan in the morning, then choose Glen Nevis, Neptune’s Staircase or a slower afternoon by the loch.

CROSSING TO SKYE/About 3 hr + ferry
Bunree → Mallaig → Armadale
Follow the Road to the Isles to Mallaig, make the short sea crossing to Armadale and arrive on Skye the memorable way.

ISLE OF SKYE/Local touring
The Trotternish Loop
Take the peninsula clockwise or anticlockwise to spread the busiest stops, with short walks chosen for the weather and energy levels.
DAY07
ISLE OF SKYE/Local touring
Dunvegan + the west coast
Pair Dunvegan Castle and Gardens with one coastal objective: Coral Beach for a walk, or Neist Point for the cliff-top drama.
DAY08
ISLE OF SKYE/As little as possible
Weather-flex Skye day
Use the clearest window for the Fairy Pools, then keep Portree, Sligachan or a full rest day ready for Highland weather.
DAY09
KINTAIL/2–3 hr + stops
Skye Bridge → Eilean Donan → Morvich
Leave the island by bridge, pause for the classic Eilean Donan view and slow down again among the sea lochs and mountains of Kintail.
DAY10
TORRIDON ARC/3–4 hr + stops
Lochcarron → Attadale → Shieldaig
Take the lower-stress line through Lochcarron, Attadale and Shieldaig into Torridon. This is scenic enough without the Bealach na Bà.
DAY11
NORTH TO EAST/3–3½ hr + visit
Inverewe → Culloden
Give Inverewe the morning, add Corrieshalloch Gorge only if timing and weather cooperate, then cross toward Inverness.
DAY12
INVERNESS + SPEYSIDE/Local touring
Culloden → Clava → Loch Garten
Start at Culloden before the crowds, pause at Clava Cairns and finish among the Caledonian pines at RSPB Loch Garten.
DAY13
SOUTHBOUND/4–4½ hr + stop
A9 → The Hermitage → Moffat
Break the long southbound run beneath the Douglas firs near Dunkeld, then make a comfortable final Scottish camp at Moffat.
DAY14
HOME RUN/4½–5½ hr + visit
Moffat → Sizergh → Worcestershire
Turn the last motorway day into part of the holiday with gardens, estate walks and lunch at Sizergh before the final run home.

The lower route through Lochcarron and Shieldaig still delivers an exceptional Torridon approach.

Houses, gardens, coast + countryside
Use National Trust membership across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with reciprocal admission at participating National Trust for Scotland places. Carry the physical card, check each property’s parking rules and use the NTS site separately in Scotland.
Castles, abbeys + archaeology
English Heritage anchors historic stops throughout England, with partner benefits at Cadw and Historic Scotland properties. These are normally half price in year one and free after the first renewal; verify the property and ticket route before arrival.
Nature reserves nationwide
A four-nation wildlife layer for major days out and quick birding breaks. Admission, parking and facilities vary by reserve, so check the individual page before diverting the van.
Five RHS gardens + partner network
Unlimited entry to the five RHS Gardens plus free entry at participating Partner Gardens at selected times. Check the current listing, access days and guest rules—including Attadale on this expedition.
Forest parking + dog-walk network
Use national membership at Forestry England paid car parks, subject to the stated exclusions, or local membership at its named forest. It is excellent for Percy breaks in England but does not transfer to Forestry and Land Scotland.
The UK touring backbone
Keep both memberships active for maximum pitch flexibility: CAMC Club sites and Certificated Locations, plus C&CC Club Sites and its member-only small-site network across the UK.
