Britain’s newest national park — 2010 vintage — gets the archive’s simplest plan: a single club site in a fold of the Downs two miles from Brighton, buses from the gate, and the van driven only where the van belongs. The Sisters are walked, the city is bussed, and nothing gets repacked for four days. Route planned, not yet driven — this file will gain field notes after the wheels turn.

Four days. The van parks once.
One positioning run, then the cliffs, the downs and the city — all from the same pitch, with the last morning saved for an Arts and Crafts house on the road home.
Worcestershire → Brighton
M40, M25 and M23 south to Sheepcote Valley — a genuine fold of the South Downs two miles east of the centre, open all year, and the last parking decision of the trip. Evening by bus from the gate: the pier, the Lanes, fish and chips on the front. Brighton’s traffic wardens never meet the Landship.
NIGHT 1 / BRIGHTON C&MCThe Seven Sisters
A27 east to Exceat and the Cuckmere’s meanders, then the Coastguard Cottages view — the one from every postcard. Lunch in Alfriston, where the Clergy House was the National Trust’s first building, bought for £10 in 1896 (no parking at the house; the village car park is the play). Then Birling Gap: NT parking free on the card, fifty steps to the shingle, Belle Tout and Beachy Head above.
NIGHT 2 / BRIGHTON C&MCDevil’s Dyke + Lewes
The downland day: Devil’s Dyke — the deepest dry valley in Britain, NT parking on the card — then Ditchling Beacon’s trig-point view. Afternoon in Lewes: castle mound, twittens and antique burrows. If the sea fog rolls in, swap the order — Lewes works in any weather.

North with one stop worth making: Standen, the Trust’s Arts and Crafts showpiece just off the M23 corridor — Morris wallpaper, hillside garden, easy parking. Then M25 and M40 home by teatime, the whole weekender inside four days.

Beautiful, and falling into the sea
The Seven Sisters are retreating — Birling Gap loses ground most years and the chalk calves without warning, often undercut where it looks most solid. So: the fence line is the line, for boots, prams and Percy’s lead alike, and the beach is reached by the staircase, never the base of the cliffs. The parking doctrine is gentler: NT members park free at Birling Gap — motorhomes otherwise pay £20 a day — with member check-in through the JustPark app. On summer weekends the Gap and Exceat fill by ten; go early or ride the 13X.
One booking, then walk up
1. Brighton ×3 — open all year, 200-plus pitches, but Pride and school-holiday weekends go early. 2. That’s it — the rest of the file is walk-up. 3. Optional: check Standen or Pevensey opening for the homeward stop.
The van never enters town
The whole city doctrine in one line: Brighton parking is scarce, priced and patrolled, and the buses from the gate are frequent — so the Landship does the coast road and the downs, never the seafront. Birling Gap’s member check-in wants the JustPark app installed before you leave home.
One pitch, zero repacking
A single base means the calmest crew logistics of the archive. The pier and Volk’s Railway carry a toddler afternoon; the Sisters walk shortens gracefully from Exceat. Percy: on the lead the whole cliff top, dog-friendly café at Birling Gap — doggie ice creams on the menu — and marked walks from the site.
The A27 crawl is real
Friday afternoons jam the A27 both ways and the coast car parks fill fast in season. The counter-moves are built in: arrive mid-afternoon, walk early, bus the city — and if the fog sits on the cliffs, flip the Dyke day forward. Chalk drains fast; the turf is walkable an hour after rain.

The stack’s best value-per-mile outing: National Trust parking at three headline stops — £20 a day saved at Birling Gap alone — the Trust’s first-ever house for context, and every night on the club card. Carry physical cards; admission, booking and parking rules vary by organisation and property.
Three stops on the card
Birling Gap (member parking free, café on the cliff), Devil’s Dyke and Ditchling Beacon — the Lakes-and-Peak doctrine at its most literal. Standen adds a house on the road home; Cuckmere’s Exceat car park is the park authority’s, so coins or app there.
Where the Trust began
The Clergy House was the National Trust’s first building — bought for £10 and restored when the young charity’s survival depended on it. Thatched, timber-framed, chalk-floored, and a ten-minute stroll from the Cuckmere. No parking at the house: use the village car park and walk in.
One club, one base, whole file
Second file running where the club card carries every night — this time on a single site with city buses from the entrance, open all year, and the South Downs starting at the back fence.
Pevensey, where it all landed
The EH card sits this file out unless you want it: Pevensey Castle — the Roman fort where William came ashore — is twenty minutes east of the Sisters and makes an easy homeward detour for castle-hungry crews.

Pull the elevating-roof canvas clear, lower, twist-lock and physically check it — every departure, no exceptions — and treat the cliff-top wind with respect: if it’s blowing at the Gap, the roof stays down until the pitch.
Weigh the real expedition
Load exactly as you intend to tour and visit a weighbridge. The automatic's 370 kg must absorb crew, Percy, water and every bag — check total and axle weights.

Sheepcote Valley’s facilities carry the whole file — fresh, waste and cassette on site, serviced pitches available. Leave brimmed, gas off at the internal shut-off for transit, and let the shortest systems plan of the archive run itself.
